Program Objectives

FCM’s mission is to curate the world for all children to explore. For middle school students, this means curating a world where they learn valuable skills, can support the Museum mission in a new way, and encourage students to get involved in their community.

The main objectives for the Middle School Summer Volunteer Program are:

• Providing middle school students with a valuable learning experience.
• Supporting the museum's educational initiatives.
• Encouraging community involvement among youth.
• Creating a pipeline for future museum volunteers or staff.

Program Structure

• Program Duration:
• The program runs parallel to the Museum’s summer camp program. Same drop off and pick-up routines apply.
• Time Commitment:
• Middle School volunteers are expected to fulfill at least 40 volunteer hours over the duration of the program.

Activities:

• SAMPLE TASKS to support Summer Camp Rooms
• Travel with each camp class for BSP exploration time (1 hour daily)
• Assist with breakfast and lunch times (1 hour daily)
• Support classes during FCM exploration time (1 hour daily)

Training:

• Each Middle School Summer Volunteer will attend an orientation training. This is a mandatory meeting...even for those who volunteered in camp last summer. Middle schoolers may be dropped off or parents can attend. The training will include...

4. Check-in and Check-out procedures

Available volunteer shifts are on the Museum’s volunteer portal through Galaxy Digital. Each volunteer has their own account. Once they complete orientation, they will be able to select shifts that fit their availability.
